Not all insects are bad for the species that inhabit our garden and should be viewed as pests. Some of them are beneficial, like the bee and its excellent relationship with flowers and fruits.

The truth is that many gardeners are unaware that a lot of flowers and many varieties of fruit should disappear if not for the bees. In turn, the plants feed these friendly insects.

Is that the bees need the flowers for nectar and pollen, which are without doubt the staple food for life. Flowers, meanwhile, require bees for pollination, allowing them to form seeds and fruits.

As in many other examples in nature, this really is a symbiotic relationship (without going in biological terms). A lifelong love at first sight that has no possibility of cheating.

In our previous post, we share some ideas about the utilities that can give the wood in our garden gazebo. We emphasize in addition, always compare the price / quality, which certainly deserves a look in terms of investment and not expenditure.

The key point is how to choose the wood for use outdoors. His attributes must be:

Highly resistant to deterioration from exposure to natural elements such as snow, rain, wind etc.

Also resistant to attack by insects and fungi, many of them generated due to a weakness in the previous section.

In this regard, councils are:

Evaluate in detail the starting point ie where the timber will be located, how exposed is (including sun exposure)

Choosing the proper wood for those conditions

Find out what the retail demand maintenance and how often.

What is the cost of products and labor in this regard.

As a general recommendation, I can tell you is that if you can invest, opt for the so-called hardwoods. At first they demand more work to cut, rails etc, but they are really tough and avoid them to expand, contract, bend etc inclement weather. These suggest: Lapacho (Tabebuia spp), Quebracho colorado (Schinopsis balansae) and Algarrobo (Prosopis alba and P.nigra).

It depends where the purchase, they can already be treated with products (ie ready to use) or virgin state, in this last if treatment is paramount, and always before assembling the structure designed to that intended.

How to prevent pests and diseases?

• Insects, fungi, bacteria and viruses preferentially attack the plants weak. Therefore, to prevent, there is nothing better than making them stronger and stronger.

• Buy quality, manners, fertile and the roots are not crowded.

• check if they carry diseases, pests or injury.

• Language species are more resistant to pests and diseases of exotic species. Use them in your garden.

• If the shade plants, plants in the sun. For example, Hosta burn in full sun all day and will be weak.

• Select the appropriate type with the characteristics of your garden soil. For example, the image below is the problem of iron deficiency (iron chlorosis), usually caused by lime soil combined with a vulnerable species. Therefore, in acid soil-loving plants such as Daisy, Gardenia, Azalea, rhododendron, Heather, Camelia, etc. ..

• There is a mixture of grass for the shade, others are far better suited to withstand trampling, to withstand drought, etc. Always choose the right thing to not suffer and fall prey to parasites.

• If your garden environment is within protected Seiridium fungal attack or a copy of the pine, macrocarpa or Arizona, do not plant this species, but others are not susceptible to Seiridium because there is a high risk of infection. This is a clear example of preventive action.

• Do not plant very dense. This causes the competition between individuals for space, water, nutrition and end of the weak and thin the plants, making them more vulnerable to pests and diseases.

• If the fungus infects plant roots have been destroyed, not to reopen the same on the same site, or if you do, replace the other land.

• It is a mistake to plant roses in the same place occupied by others for more than six years. Soils contain fungi and “exhaustion.”

• Excessive irrigation causing root rot and “spoiled” irrigation, suffer when they do not have a specific time. Also have to go thirsty plants.

• Avoid wetting leaves and flowers because they support the development of the disease. Irrigation at the bottom.

• Excess nitrogen is the most tender plants for insects, for example, mites (red spider) to increase their attacks.

• Collect and burn the leaves that have been attacked by fungi.

• Avoid wounds and injuries in the fall at around the plants as fungi as Botrytis, cankers on the trunk and branches, bacteria …

• Complete the tangled trees and shrubs by pruning to improve aeration and sunlight in the glass. This reduces the proliferation of fungi and other pathogens.

• disinfect pruning tools to avoid passing bacteria or viruses from one another crop.

• Some crops to scare off as a natural pest repellent. This is not 100% effective, but as a supplement to help. For example, a park or garden is surrounded by several aromatic sage, rue, rosemary or lavender, or between a common culture, Mint, Tarragon, Thyme and Basil.
