postheadericon Small House Plans are Both Practical & Green

Future homeowners who are buying house plans online to build their own house know how important it is to keep building costs down today. The money simply isn’t flowing so freely these days but that’s no reason to give up on building a custom home. Small house plans help cut costs and homes of less than 2,000 square feet use less energy to heat or cool. There is a growing movement away from overly large mansions to homes that are not so big, and homes that leave less of a carbon footprint.

Small House Plans

In the future, home buyers faced with sky-high energy costs are going to flock to smaller homes. Homes built with small house plans that make good use of the square footage will be in high demand in the future. Homes built from house plans designed for the “bigger in better” crowd will sit on the market.

Living in affordable and ecologically responsible small houses will be the wave of the future. Using energy to heat spare bedrooms and entire floors rarely used will seem irresponsible and wasteful. Already, a growing number of people nationwide are downsizing not just for the sake of saving money right now in a bad economy, they are downsizing to minimize their family’s energy use. It’s easy to cut costs when you don’t have to look frugal, you can look environmentally responsible instead. It’s much easier to justify being concerned about the environment to yourself and to your friends than it is to be worried about money.

Depending on where you but your house plans, you should be able to get sustainable designs that use green building techniques and eco-friendly products. However, going smaller saves enough energy that you should not feel you need to spend extra to go green unless you will save money on energy costs in the long run. You’ve done your part by downsizing, relax and enjoy the upgrades you were able to afford once you went with small house plans instead of the plans for the big mansion.
