Strobilanthes

The Strobilanthes is a plant whose foliage is Burmese origin of intense color, with metallic violet tints. It is best grown in a greenhouse, but can be inside for limited periods. It is advisable to grow it next to other plants. Often leaves may reach about 20 inches long, and feature exotic brands. In the summer flowers are pale blue. Young plants are more beautiful color than adults, so that should be renewed every two years.
Grow this plant in warm conditions throughout the year, supports a winter minimum of 15 ° C, although it prefers a temperature around 18 º C.
Place in a well lit, but indirect light, in summer, the Strobilanthes has to be protected from strong light, as the leaves burn very easily.
Water it copiously with warm water in the surface of the compost starts to dry, do not let the root ball to dry.
This plant needs lots of moisture indoors, use a spray several times a day and have the plant in a dish containing expanded clay, so as to maintain moisture. If you are in a greenhouse with paved banks, it is occasionally wet soil and banks.
Fertilize every week the largest plants during the active growing period, if the plants are renewed every year and replanted in marl substrate, do not need fertilizer. Fertilize every two weeks, growing in peat substrate, six weeks after transplantation.
Grow them in peat moss or loam, the latter is easier to maintain, from the point of view of irrigation, and provides stability to the plant when it is higher.
Court of Strobilanthes cuttings in spring or summer, prune the plants from last year in early spring for cuttings.
